Belonging and being 'Othered': This binary opposition is played out in Eddie's connection to land. Although Eddie is a native of the Murray Island people, the government owns the land, framing him as a 'guest' in his homeland. This is shown through flashbacks to his life on Mer Island before his departure for the mainland. These confirm his connection to the land, and then by proxy his right to ownership.
