Plot and Narrative Structure
Mabo follows a traditional linear narrative structure, albeit at times interrupted by flashback and montage. This allows the viewer to form a strong emotional connection to the characters, show the connection between father, son and land, and allow the film to adhere to the biopic genre.
Mabo employs traditional conventions of traditional drama. The plot unfolds logically: there is both happy and sad closure to the story; the story is focused on characters; and there is an attempt to be objective. It also shows elements of biography with the use of stock footage (giving the film credence).
